Check out the visuals here, and get the songs for free download as well. MRI's co-founder Ryan Warnberg explains both the artists' concept behind the photos, as well as their approach on the website:
We wanted to express how god-damn filthy and gross [Brain Tumors] truly are, so we did a long exposure of some garbage and blood, colored with different gels/flashes. Then we covered the lens (while still running an exposure) moved the camera a bit, and then in the same exposure, we scrawled the band name in light, spit on each other and called it a night.
MRI Lightpainting is a company founded by Warnberg, a Bloomington native, and Michelle McSwain. The company has created custom artwork for fashion shoots, albums, and fine art, developed a mobile photo booth for public/corporate events, and most recently launched the LightBomber iPhone app.
For the Light Up Playlist, they are planning several releases, including more Minnesota musicians such as Dollarstore Keyboard and Oceans in Space. All the music on the site will be exclusive. "The artists we choose are friends of ours," Warnberg explains, and the playlist is "sort of our version of a record label," and will include a wide variety of musical genres. They are starting with still images, but have plans to include animation as the series develops.
