Solid Gold - "The Pendulum (Live on MN Original)"

Back in November, the guys in Solid Gold dropped by tpt's Studio A in St. Paul to film a couple of live performances for MN Original. We've already featured their intoxicating rendition of "Elephants," and now the second clip from their session has been made available, featuring a live performance of Eat Your Young standout "The Pendulum." The mercurial neon lighting only adds to the atmospherics of the song, which clearly shows how potent the band has become with the addition of the Hanson brothers to their live set up.

Strange Names - "Once An Ocean (Live on Radio K)"

Just a few hours before winning over the First Avenue crowd at this year's Best New Bands showcase, Strange Names (our #7 band in this year's Picked To Click poll) dropped by the Radio K studios to play a fresh live set. "Once An Ocean" is the strongest from their session, and finds the band locking into a hypnotic groove. The emerging group has a big headlining show planned at the Empty Bottle in Chicage on February 20, with Howler's Jordan Gatesmith opening the show with a solo set. And surely, we will all be hearing plenty more from Strange Names (maybe even a full-length?) as 2013 moves briskly along.

On An On - "The Hunter"

This jubilant clip for "The Hunter," from the Chicago (by way of Minneapolis) trio On An On was directed by the local dream team duo Dan Huiting and Isaac Gale. The track comes from the group's just released debut, 'Give In,' an enchanting batch of songs that should garner the group some well deserved attention in 2013. If you've ever wanted to see a couple of metalheads headband to a soaring electro-clash ditty (in addition to a bunch of other bizarre sights), then this video is most definitely for you.

Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps - "Half About Being A Woman (Live in St. Cloud)"

After recently charming a sold-out Cedar Cultural Center with songs both new and old, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps have plans to head into the studio to record a new album. And this live clip of "Half About Being A Woman," taken from a performance at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud (as part of the Current's Caravan Du Nord tour), shines a tender spotlight on one of the new songs that the band should be committing to record in the very near future. Caroline's many fans surely can't wait to hear the eventual studio version of this track, especially after being easily won over by this stirring live rendition.

American Hipster Profiles Secret Stash Records

The local vinyl heads at Secret Stash Records get a well-deserved profile from the roving YouTube video series, American Hipster. They get up close and personal with the Secret Stash crew, including co-founder Eric Foss, finding out what the label is up to, checking out a live performance, and even helping stuff records. It's a great behind-the-scenes look at the retro label, who we've been championing here for quite a while, and hopefully this feature will help spread the word about all the fine musical work that Secret Stash does.

I think it's safe for Minneapolis to claim them too.  According to their Twitter page, most of us live in and are crushing on Minneapolis now - but both are definitely home.
