Minneapolis, you wanted some Prince performances? Well, they're here! The Purple One is taking over the Dakota Jazz Club Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for six of open rehearsal shows before his next tour. Maybe he was tired of 3rd Eye Girl and Stories About Prince hogging all the attention lately.

According to Dr. Funkenberry, these rehearsals can't happen at Paisley Park because the band Fun. -- y'know, "We Are Young" -- is renting the space. Each night has a slightly different performance aspect, and all of 'em are fixing to be pack the Dakota to the gills. Update: Tickets are set to go on sale at NOON!

You may recall that it was rumored last fall that Prince was going to do something big in downtown St. Paul. That particular caper folded, and he ended up revamping his hairstyle into an afro, and doing some Welcome 2 Chicago shows at the United Center instead.

The Wednesday, January 16 shows (8 p.m. and 11 p.m.) are titled "Soundcheck." Tickets cost $70.

Thursday, January 17's shows (8 p.m. and 11 p.m.) are called "Jam." Tickets cost $100-$150.

The Friday, January 18 performances (8 p.m. and 11 p.m.) are labeled "Surprise." Tickets are $200-$250.

From the Dakota: "The kitchen will be closed all night and there will be no food available for purchase. Cameras and cell phones will not be allowed inside." Also, Friday's show will be standing room on the club's floor.

Tickets go on sale at 5:47 p.m. this afternoon 11 a.m. THIS MORNING noon (?) here.

So much for going on sale for at 5:47, as this article states; tickets are sold out and it is 3:40 pm. And to Oscar, don't blame the Dakota, blame Prince, but you really should blame yourself for being broke. When I was broke and taking the town by storm, I went to see up and coming acts and loved it. Now I am all growed-up and responsible, and I can afford to shell out the dough to see people like prince.

WTF is going on with sales?  I tried purchasing at 11am.  I received a message stating tickets would go on sale at 1:15pm.  Now it's stating 5:47pm.

So punk rock Prince, playing to the people in a small venue. With the big money that is. I love Prince, but when he's a no show at the First Ave. last year, but will do a show like the Dakota at the richie rich prices. Keep playing to the elite, lame.

PRINCE - I LOVE YOU!!!

But why are your tickets so darn expensive? It seems you only allow folks with money in to see you. Poor folk appreciate your talent too ya know.

Fuck Prince and the Dakota for being so expensive.

@hooligan2 Playing to the elite? I highly doubt thats the case. Gaga, and U2 have ticket prices in the hundreds and more. Prince is an icon and an intimate show is just what any high caliber artist should do. I hate shows in the arenas filled with yelling fans and you cant even see the fucking artist on stage, but yet the ticket price was a $250 price tag.

@lilifer Check your email. Mine landed on the same queue screen - but I got an email confirming that the order went through and my card was processed. Good luck!
