The 12 best country shows in February

Casey James
Thursday 2/14 8:00
Cabooze, $12-15
American Idol needs to stop making country singers. They're doing it wrong.

George Strait, with Martina McBride
Friday 2/15 8:00
Xcel Energy Center, Sold Out (more or less)
More or less sold out? It appears the only tickets available are single seats in the $399 "Ace In The Hole" VIP Package, which gets you one seat in the first ten rows, special parking, access to a pre-show party and a special George Strait exhibit, and a laminated VIP pass you can flash at your friends in Facebook photos. If you're willing to ask a stranger to take that photo, that is, because you'll be sitting alone.

Deadstring Brothers
Friday 2/15 8:00
Lee's Liquor Lounge, $10
Bloodshot Records-backed, 70s-influenced country rock from Detroit, all attitude. 70s-influenced? Okay, not just an influence. Straight up 1970s.

Texas 2 Minnesota Presents Mike McClure Band, The Damn Quails and Jessey Thompson
Saturday 2/16 8:00
Lee's Liquor Lounge, $12
Red Dirt night at Lee's, with three bands not from Texas, but from Oklahoma.

John Denver: A Rocky Mountain High
Sunday 2/17 7:00
Historic State Theater, $36.50-46.50
Anyone remember John Denver's last hit? It was the Pacific Ocean! Har har har. Sorry. This touring tribute show honoring Denver's memory and music features members of his band with an accompanying string section playing to projected videos of Denver performing.

Foghorn Stringband
Saturday 2/23 8:00
Lee's Liquor Lounge, $12
The respected West Coast string band returns to the area later in the month, with local favorites The Cactus Blossoms opening.

Josh Thompson
Saturday 2/23 8:00
Cabooze, $18-20
Josh Thompson is very popular on contemporary country radio. Worse things could happen (and usually do).
