John Mark Nelson is one act set to perform at Barbette's Bastille Day Block Party

Not only does Barbette have one of the best late night Happy Hours in the Twin Cities, but their annual Bastille Day Block Party is consistently one of the best free music festivals of the summer. This year should be no exception, as Barbette has quite a day planned on Sunday, July 14 for their 11th Annual Bastille Day celebration.

In addition to a terrific music line-up led by John Mark Nelson, the Suicide Commandos, Lucy Michelle, and others, Barbette also has entertainment planned by the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theater, the Infiammati Fire Circus, as well as a wine spitting contest.

Barbette's Bastille Day Block Party is set to run from 3 p.m.-10 p.m on Sunday, July 14. It's a rain-or-shine event held outside the restaurant on Irving and Lagoon, with both stage and street entertainment planned for the day. Local nonprofit waste-reduction organization Eureka Recycling on-hand to ensure that the block party is a zero-waste event.

The complete Bastille Day Block Party lineup:

Portions of the proceeds from the Block Party will benefit People Serving People, a benevolent organization located in downtown Minneapolis that provides emergency shelter to homeless Hennepin County families throughout the year.

In addition to the live music and entertainment on offer, there will also be organic picnic foods available along with plenty of cold beverages, as well as a local artists market. But perhaps the most intriguing event planned for Barbette's Bastille Day Block Party is the wine spitting contest, what organizers are humorously calling Great Expectorations: A wine-soaked spit-tacular. Sounds like a blast.
