Danny Brown's show last weekend at the Triple Rock, in which a member of the audience allegedly performed oral sex on him, has opened up a discussion about onstage sexual assault. Brown's tour mate and friend Kitty Pryde has written a lengthy piece on Vice's Noisey music blog on the incident, referred to as "The Thing," which fleshes out several of the arguments she made on her (since-deleted) Tumblr in the days following last Friday's concert. Portions of her comments were quoted by Gimme Noise in our report on the incident.

Pop music performers of either gender have received unwanted advances from audiences for years, and Pryde alludes to being attacked by members of a crowd in Vancouver earlier this year. In her essay, Pryde asserts "'The Thing' was not a thing that Danny facilitated--it was an actual sexual assault, and somehow nobody gives a fuck about that but me."

Titled "My Thoughts on This Whole Danny Brown Oral Sex Thing," the piece provides several thought-provoking points in the aftermath of a story mostly told by blurry photos and video captured on cell phone cameras and passed around the corners of Twitter and social media.

The topic spread widely when Kendrick Lamar asked Brown about it, and got this as a response.

Kitty describes the types of female fans who flock to Danny Brown shows and pledges her support for most of them. She stands by Brown as her friend, and astutely notes that this incident has polarized his fans into "one side thinking he's way more awesome than they should, and the other thinking he's an awful misogynist and hack." She refutes graphic accounts of the night that appeared on Reddit suggesting that he facilitated the reported assault, and argues that Brown was put in a lose-lose situation when the girl allegedly took advantage of him.

He would've had to either pushed her face or kicked her, and even the most gentle of either motion would immediately be labeled "abuse" by anyone watching. Guys pushing girls is not a good look when people are taking photos.

"I'm mad that even though they know exactly who the girl is, nobody in the media will even talk to her," she writes. In the case of City Pages, this isn't true. As of this posting, no personal information about the individual involved has been released to us, nor has it showed up in a public record like a police report.

To get the full breadth of her argument, you should just go read her post. But at the end, Kitty writes, "unfortunately I'm sure this girl will never be brought to justice anywhere besides my stupid Tumblr."

If there was a sex crime committed at the Triple Rock, Minneapolis Police are best equipped to bring a suspect to justice. According to Sgt. Stephen McCarty, who covers the First Precinct where the Triple Rock is located, there were no sexual assaults reported there on the night of April 26.

The proper step for involved parties to take would be to call the Minneapolis Police tip line at 612-692-8477 or submit an online police report. There are plenty of us in this community and beyond who take the safety of everyone inside a concert venue -- onstage and off -- quite seriously.

This article. This band. This. THIS is where Minnesota tries to validate itself as a serious music scene, and fails.

Hey Reed, pretty shitty of you to sell papers with the salacious details.  Not really seeing why you are involved in this story for any other reason than you are manufacturing a controversy and a pretty tasteless one at that.

Shame on you.

Am I the only one disturbed by her going on about how this is sexual assault while in the same post, bragging about bringing him "sluts" that are too drunk to park their own cars? Wait, and your excuse for why he acted like he was into it was because if he didn't, other rappers would call him gay and that's "the worst possible thing that could happen?" Sorry, Kitty, but you suck.

I did go and read Kitty Pryde's whole blog apparently he did attempt to back away, so I guess I stand corrected. His behavior afterwards is highly suspect and just as "douchebro-ish" as she claims the people at the show were.

this wasn't the first time this has happened at one of his shows. watch the episode of kathy griffin that he appeared on a while back. she asked him about it happening at another show and he admitted it. sexual assault my ass, dude loved it.

Is it sad that I giggled a little when I started reading the article and the term "fleshes out" came up? Phrasing people, phrasing! :P

He deleted his twitter post that said he "didn't miss a bar bruh bruh". Any press is good press. They know that.

Exactly! Or he could have asked for security to remove her from the stage before it even got to that point.....like when she was handling his penis to get it out of his damn pants. Women get removed from stages all the time for doing crazy things.

Yes, he was assaulted, but the act needn't have continued. And wouldn't have, without his participation.

Huh? How difficult could it be to avoid getting oral sex from a fan while onstage? If the argument is really that he was helpless to avoid or stop it, that's a pretty laughable argument.

Shouldn't act like a dude who want's his dick sucked on stage if he doesn't want his dick sucked on stage, bottom line.

Couldn't he have just taken a step backwards?  I mean seriously.  The T-Rock's stage isn't that small.

The show must go on, he is a consummate professional.

HOw is kicking or pushing her the only options??? There's a whole stage he could've moved around, stepped back until she was removed if he felt assaulted. Did I miss that as an option?

@WilliamJ83 That's what I was thinking, but it depends, I suppose, on how much tooth is involved.

@elephantiger @WilliamJ83 I want to know why he did not ask for security or someone to help while his penis was being removed from his pants?  Crazy ass women are doing crazy ass things to get kicked off a stage all the time, he was not in a helpless position of not being able to do something.
