Twins Midwest Music Showcase series features P.O.S., Trampled By Turtles, the 4onthefloor, and more
Anyone who has been to a baseball game at Target Field knows that you can have a good time there no matter if the Twins are winning or losing -- though a victory by the hometown squad certainly helps make the experience even more memorable.
Well, good times are going to be even easier to be had at the downtown ballpark with the Twins recent announcement of the Midwest Music Showcase, a series of eight live music performances from local bands at Target Field beginning with a performance by the 4onthefloor on May 15 and running through the end of August.
Other highlights to the schedule include P.O.S. playing before & during the Yankees game on July 3, and Trampled By Turtles performing at the Indians game on August 14.
In addition to the Midwest Music Showcase announcement, the Twins and their radio home, 96.3 K-TWIN, have established a music competition for local bands, The Sound Factor, with the winner of the contest getting to perform at the August 28 game against the Royals. Local musicians should send samples of their music to the radio station, where they will be reviewed by a panel of judges, including Bobby Z, drummer for Prince and the Revolution and host of the station's local show, The Sound.
The judges will select three finalists, who will then be voted on by the fans. The winner will then get the opportunity to play live at a Twins game at Target Field on August 28. "We're looking forward to hearing some of the cool and unique music local bands submit for 'The Sound Factor' contest," said Bobby Z. "We'll play some of the submissions on my show, The Sound, and one lucky winner will get to play in front of thousands of fans at Target Field."
Submissions should be sent with one song and brief band/performer bio to:
Midwest Music Showcase
420 North 5th Street, Suite 150
Minneapolis, MN 55401
Or via email: Contest@KTWIN.com
Submissions for "The Sound Factor" contest will be accepted from Wednesday, May 15 until Wednesday, July 31.
In addition to that exciting new contest, the rest of the Midwest Music Showcase lineup has something for everybody. Along with the 4onthefloor, P.O.S., and Trampled By Turtles, GB Leighton, Jack Knife and the Sharps, Hitchville, and Rocket Club are also set to perform at upcoming games. The bands will be performing their original songs live from the left field balcony before the game, as well as between innings and during pitching changes during the game, a great upgrade and alternative from the canned Top 40 nonsense that permeates so many ballparks today.
"The Twins Midwest Music Showcase is a great way for us to feature some talented local musicians while we continue to explore ways to evolve our in-game experience," said Joe Pohlad, Director of Twins Productions and Creative Services.
