Bathysphere: A Psychonautical Voyage feat. Dean & Britta, Sonic Boom, First Communion After Party, Flavoe Crystals, The Vandelles, The Telescopes and more
First Avenue Mainroom (FRIDAY & SATURDAY)
It's not every day that a show sets out to submerge you in the music, but that's exactly what the first Bathysphere: A Psychonautical Voyage is all about. The two-day, shoegaze-rich event gets its name from a deep-sea observation chamber. Both the dark, fuzzy masterpieces of A Place to Bury Strangers (Saturday), and Dean Wareham & Britta Phillips (Friday) playing psychedelic Galaxie 500 songs should plumb the depths of consciousness. Past the headliners, both days of shows in the Mainroom and the Entry will deliver considerable reverb-drenched noise. The 20 bands include organizer Chatham Rise, Spaceman 3 vet Sonic Boom, and locals such as Pony Trash, Flavor Crystals, Panther Ray, and Magic Castles. --Reed Fischer
