Last year, Hip Hop Harambee emerged as a compelling new Twin Cities festival. Held at the Nomad World Pub, and featuring an outdoor stage in its parking lot, the event had room to grow into a sizable party once Sims and headliner Talib Kweli got up into the action.
Now, the event is ready for its second run on Saturday, September 21. This time, there are even more national acts to light up the night. Leading the way is Big K.R.I.T., who has become one of the preeminent rapper-producers in the game. Check out the full lineup and set times below.
"Everybody that's on that stage is poised to have a big year," Toki Wright told Jack Spencer in this week's print preview. "I'm really looking forward to Shabazz Palaces, [they] had a big influence on me the past few years. To just do something [and not] care what's going on in the industry right now.... If you don't dig it, that's because you're not ready... whoever [does is] going to have the time of their life."
Before the festivities, a pre-Harambee bike ride dance party begins at 11 a.m. at Loring Park and will make four scheduled stops before reaching the Nomad's lot at about 1 p.m. Performances will continue until 10 p.m.
