Twin Cities music fan of the week: GRRRL PRTY Residency
|"They must have picked the least dateable motherfuckers in the city."|
In the Twin Cities Fan of the Week series, Gimme Noise showcases fellow concertgoers in their natural habitat.
Event: GRRRL PRTY Residency night two, with Psalm One, Lioness and BdotCroc
Date of Discovery: Wednesday, October 9th, 2013
Last night's show at Icehouse was a great addition to GRRRL PRTY's now-ongoing residency, and all signs point to this being a regular party you won't want to miss. The fierce band of ladies, led by Lizzo, Manchita and Sophia Eris put on a fiery set after great warm-ups from two North Minneapolis lyrical giants, BdotCroc and the Lioness. Just to prove that they can hang with the greats, GRRRL PRTY also invited Chicago's Psalm One up for a ruling performance with her band, and the Rhymesayers MC debuted new cuts off of her Free Hugs EP to get the club revved up.

Why'd you come out to the show tonight?
My boy Dan put me up to it, I'd never seen these ladies before, but he told me I had to check it out and...
*Older Street Gentleman Approaches and remarks on the high number of women inside the club*
Damn, I know right? They got it goin' on in there! But yeah, I never heard them before but GRRRL PRTY is the truth, I've wasted $6 on much worse shit!
What's your favorite place to see music in town?
Damn, that's a tough question! I'm usually at the Nomad or over here at Icehouse. I'm a big fan of Coloring Time, who plays here. Joe Horton and John Keston are dope. I went to school with John Keston at MCAD just down the block from here.
What are you drinking tonight?
Whiskey-Cokes. All night pimpin'! I'm on number six right now!
How's your life being affected by the government shutdown?
Shit, not my life directly, but I have a friend that works for the TSA that's really struggling right now. I just can't believe it, man. I thought we learned how to manage our money in middle school. I learned how to balance my budget when I was twelve years old, pimpin'!
Did you see that New York Times article on the Minneapolis dating scene?
It was ridiculous! I just kept laughing, I kinda think the people that they talked to weren't really on their shit man. Mortimers isn't even really like that, you know? They must have picked the least dateable motherfuckers in the city. They probably just moved here from Colorado or some shit. Ridiculous!
Wanna give any shout-outs?
Hell yeah! Gotta shout out my boy Jake Heinitz for gettin' me in here and for a great first issue of his magazine, Greenroom. I built their website for them. Also gotta shout-out my boy Dan, and Hi-Deff. I don't see him too much anymore but I be keepin' an eye out and he's doin his damn thing!
