That's a great shirt!
How were your seats for the show?
I was in Section 115. I usually end up behind the people who smoke copious amounts of weed. I don't know if everyone in the world does and not me, but I am always behind people who just can't stop smoking joints. It's like getting behind people at the theater who talk all the time. I don't know if they just were smoking really crappy weed, or if they were just really into it, because that was what they were doing the entire time. Three quarters of the way through the show the three of them were all sitting down. I think they were all a little tired.
What do you talk to people about when you're cutting their hair?
Music, movies, and food. After doing this for so long, I've realized what subjects to steer people away from -- religion or politics. I feel like I should be charging a lot more for some people, more like therapist rates. A couple years ago, there were two different couples. One husband started coming to me, and then he referred his wife. Then she referred this other couple. Then I found out that the one guy was sleeping with the other wife. I knew all these we're secrets about them. I was like, "Why are you telling me this?" In general, I'm not a great secret keeper. All of a sudden, they all stopped coming and I heard the one couple got a divorce. I'm sure somebody found out what was going on and they were all too embarrassed to come back.
Do you have a lot of NIN collectables?
My Trent obsession is what my son calls it. I used to collect everything -- and my mom still has a box of all of the things I kept -- until Lost Highway [in 1997]. That's when I stopped collecting things. The last thing I remember keeping was the Rolling Stone with him and David Lynch on the cover. Then it started becoming mainstream and I was getting creepy. [laughs]
What's your favorite piece of memorabilia?
I've been to every show that's been through here, and I have a shirt from each one. I saw them once in Vegas. I've been to eight shows, which is not nearly enough.
*Nikki later sent a follow-up email with this message: "I lied. This is my favorite NIN thing that I own;-)"
A Nine Inch Nails garden gnome!
