After this champion of marriage equality signed with powerhouse label Glassnote Records (Mumford & Sons, CHVRCHES) earlier this year, this is the first output from a new era of Messersmith. The song is expected to appear on his next album, Heart Murmurs.

The main thing that listeners will notice when experiencing "Tourniquet" is the polish of it. Not to say that 2010's The Reluctant Graveyard didn't have a sheen, but this song sounds like every harmony, every chord, every rhythm, and all the backing strings were refined until there were no imperfections or extraneous bits left to distract us. Messersmith's ever-clever lyrics -- themes typically attached to drug addiction are changed into to wrapping his arms around someone -- are delivered with an expanded confidence.
Since he just debuted this song on 89.3 the Current, the expectation is that the station will give us a healthy injection -- sorry, had to -- of "Tourniquet" in the coming days.
Ever the benevolent soul, Messersmith has upped the song for streaming here and downloadable here.
