The Varsity Theater hosts a number of events this week; including Minus the Bear, Between the Buried and Les Claypool. Miranda Lambert makes an appearance at the Xcel Center Friday, meanwhile Father John Misty will be performing a solo show in the First Avenue Mainroom. Ryan Hemsworth
Triple Rock Social Club
Though he has a handful of EPs out, Halifax producer Ryan Hemsworth has made his name in a more fractal manner than most. There are glinting remixes of Future's "Turn on the Lights," Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You," and Grimes' "Genesis." There are the lengthy, eclectic DJ mixes that have gained traction throughout the blogosphere. There are the low-risk, high-reward productions he's done for rappers like North Carolina's Deniro Farrar, whose pendulous Hemsworth collab "Big Tookie" might be the gangsta-rap song of the year. At any rate, Hemsworth appears to be without genre boundaries, and that should yield great diversity on his forthcoming debut LP, Guilt Trips. With Cyril Hahn. --Mike Madden

Miranda Lambert
Xcel Energy Center
Miranda Lambert is more Johnny than June. She sings about guns, whiskey, cigarettes, and the benefits of each. First gaining recognition on the reality show Nashville Star, Lambert has since released four albums, each better than the last. She's very much a product of the Nashville assembly line -- much of her vengeful material comes from professional songwriting teams -- but few country stars have the 31-year-old's charisma and vocal precision. If you're reluctant to dive headlong into the honky-tonk, start with 2011's "Fine Tune" or her explosive cover of John Prine's "That's the Way That the World Goes Round." With Dierks Bentley.  --Mike Madden
