The intersection of First Avenue and Fifth Street on Saturday night.
Saturday night's Yo Gotti show at Epic in downtown Minneapolis was shut down following gunfire inside the venue. A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning, police say.

At least one shot was reportedly fired during a set by the Memphis rapper's opener, YG. Soon after, between 30 and 40 police cars responded to the intersection of First Avenue and Fifth Street.

This story is still developing.

Some choppy audio of a 911 call is here. On the recording, an unidentified voice says, "One shot fired inside Epic."

According to Minneapolis police, they were on the scene shortly before 1 a.m. The victim was found on the sidewalk. Later in the 911 recording, there's a call for an ambulance, and it says that officers are doing CPR on a victim.

Officers on the scanner can be heard saying, "We need the entire block shut down. The entire block is a crime scene." Later, northbound Second Avenue was shut down at Sixth Street. Eventually Epic was evacuated.

Reports suggest that a verbal altercation took place between the victim and the suspect inside the club. According to witnesses, the suspect shot the victim and then ran away. The victim was pronounced dead after he was taken outside. Homicide investigators are talking to witnesses. Despite earlier accounts to the contrary, no arrests have been made.

According to Star Tribune, the as-yet unnamed victim was from the North Side and was previously known to the police.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim," says Epic General Manager Beecher Vaillancourt. "So sad and unnecessary."

Saddened by all the comments. Regardless of what type of concert or what color the people were and are....a man died. He was a son a brother a father and a friend to many. Its a tragedy and just gives people something to talk crap about. Such crap that people are so cold and heartless. Nobody is perfect and we all have faults but damn have some respect for this man's family and friends. RIP Tye

Every time I see "Yo Gotti" I think of "Yo Gabba Gabba". At least the asshole knew the difference, but I hope they find him...I'm so tired of listening to sorry arguments about second amendment rights. What about my right to live safely even if I do choose to go to some crappy show?

Rap shows occasionally have violence. Country western shows always have violence.

Yeah it's a rap show who's surprised there was violence. Assholes always have opinions.

All I know is Minneapolis has been experience some respect and growth of late, and I hate to see it come crashing down under the Murderapolis title again.

Who? Anyways, sounds like a lack of venue security & a lack of thorough patdowns. Being at Epic I'm assuming it was some lame ass hip hop show, which Security should have been more thorough with.

That's cool if people like Hip-Hop music but crap like this has got to stop! Is a gun shot really worth it? I know Minneapolis has been have problems with Hip Hop shows the last couple of years

@MNjoe No doubt.  On another thread I saw him posting now as "KennyX."  Note the second "n".  So he must have once again violated his deal with Rupar and gotten his name banned.  He's unregistered, so all he does is create a new bogus free e-mail account and a similarly spelled screen name and he's up and running in minutes.  I've seen CinBlueLand, Kirk and Mingtran on other threads too, so they're still in the good graces.

@Heather Vandenheuvel

What the hell does this have to do with second amendment rights?

Do you really think these jokers with long criminal records have legally purchased guns?

Better security is the least these venues that cater to the thug culture should have to provide.

As someone who has worked large venue concerts for decades, I can tell you, WE Fest is the most peaceful and lawful (very little drug use) event in the county.

@sosmpls Unless you decide that alcohol isn't a dangerous drug - which it is.

My opinion stays the same.  Yes there is black on black crime, but the problem is way deeper than most people understand.  We need to look at WHY this is happening.  Look at the unemployment rate of African Americans and why is this so low?  Look at the graduation rate of African Americans and why is this so low?  The problem is in the area that African Americans are growing up.  We don't get to pick our parents or where we get to live when we're younger, some people turn to drugs and gangs and some people stay away from it.  Instead of skipping school and going to hang out with your friends, we need to get a good education and graduate from high school and go the right route.

African Americans are not the only one commiting horrific crimes and killing other people of their same kind.  We can't be racist and judgemental.  Everyone is talking about how typical it is how a black person got killed at a rap concert.  But when a school shooting happens like Sandy Hook or Columbine or even the movie theater, nobody talks about how the person is always WHITE! White people are so racist it's disgusting.

How many white people have been shot by white people in Minneapolis ?! Are you kidding me ? Black people are not the only race who uses guns , lets make that clear and def. not the the only race who kills people with them. You need a reality check.
