First Avenue announces Best New Bands of 2013 lineup

Our annual Picked to Click poll isn't the only way the local music community shines a spotlight on emerging Minnesota bands and musicians. Another exciting event that celebrates the next era in local music is First Avenue's annual Best New Bands showcase, which is set to take place in the Mainroom on Thursday, January 30. This year's jam-packed lineup is filled with groups who are boldly pushing the Minnesota sound and style forward.

The Best New Bands of 2013 showcase at First Avenue will feature three of this year's Picked to Click winners, GRRRL PRTY, Southwire, and Fury Things. In addition, the emerging MC Allan Kingdom will be rocking the Mainroom stage, along with BBGUN, the new project from scene veterans Alan Church, Neal Perbix, and Jeremy Hanson.

The garage-soul sextet Black Diet are also on the stacked Best New Bands bill, as well as indie rocker Frankie Teardrop, who rounds out one of the best showcase lineups in recent memory.

The 18+ show is set for First Avenue's Mainroom on Thursday, January 30, with doors opening at 7 p.m., and showtime beginning at 7:30. Tickets are $7.

So if you want to see some of the breakout acts of 2013 play the big stage at First Avenue, get yourself some tickets for the Best New Bands of 2013 showcase. It promises to be a big celebration of the next generation of Twin Cities musicians who are making compelling, invigorating music that is helping take the local sound and scene in a vibrant new direction.
