Fort Wilson Riot - "Yes Indeed"

Minneapolis electro-pop duo Fort Wilson Riot are back with a new album, trIIIIun, due out on May 13. The first musical taste they are offering up from that new collection is "Yes Indeed," a futuristic, synth-laden R&B number that is matched by an equally metaphysical video, directed by Daniel Hoffstrom and Daniel Garritsen. trIIIIun was produced by Ryan Olcott (12 Rods, Mystery Palace), and finds the band boldly expanding their sonic palette while also refining their pulsating, textured sound. Fort Wilson Riot are celebrating the release of their new album with a record release show at the Triple Rock on Saturday, May 24, along with special guests La Liberte, C. Kostra, and DJ Mini Blanco.

Run West Run MN Original Feature

Back in December, the seminal Twin Cities band Run Westy Run reunited for their first shows in 15 years, playing back-to-back gigs at First Avenue and the Turf Club. The performances brought together many of the fans and musicians who formed the heart of the '80s music scene, celebrating a band who always played things loose and unpredictable. MN Original was there at First Avenue to capture it. This revealing feature is not only full of live clips from the performance, but interviews with the band and their supporters who waited a long time for the chance to see them play once again.

Paul Metzger MN Original Feature

MN Original also created this intimate look at the music and motivations of Paul Metzger. The idiosyncratic musician continues to garner plenty of new fans (with recent high-profile opening slots for Laura Marling and Bob Mould), as well as astonishing longtime supporters with his unique banjo-driven songs and sonic explorations. This feature gives fans a glimpse into the inspiration that fuels Metzger's work, as well as his distinctive modified banjo itself.

Fury Things - "Better Off (Live at Ecstattic Fest)"

A few weeks ago at the Turf Club, a bunch of talented, inventive bands convened as part of Ecstattic Fest, celebrating the production work of Ecstattic Studio's Ali Jaafar. The blistering garage-rock trio Fury Things were one of the bands on the jam packed bill, and the fine folks at UnderCurrentMPLS were there to capture the raw edge of their new song, "Better Off." The group is in the process of finishing up their forthcoming full-length, but still are keeping busy demolishing stages all over the cities. You can find out for yourself by catching Fury Things live when they open for Little Man's CD release show at Amsterdam on April 18, along with Pink Mink.

Koo Koo Kanga Roo - "The Coolest Person"

The ebullient party duo Koo Koo Kanga Roo are back with another playful and entirely infectious new video for "The Coolest Person." The track is drawn from their forthcoming album, Whoopty Whoop, which is due out on May 13 via Fun Fun Records. Ben Johnson and Kenny Abdo created, directed, and edited the wild, exuberant video, which features a recognizable cast of characters from within the local music scene all having a blast with the band. After touring all over the U.S. throughout April and May, Koo Koo Kanga Roo are returning home and throwing an afternoon, all-ages CD release show at Amsterdam on May 25, with Destroy Nate Allen, as well as an 18+ show later that same night with special guests Carroll and General B. and the Wiz.

Fort Wilson Riot might want to smoke less marijuana. I don't get it.
