The National's Bryce Dessner is one of the artists taking part in Liquid Music's new season

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music series has done a brilliant job blending classical music with modern tastes, unifying the two in consistently innovative collaborations and unique performances. That experimental trend continues with the SPCO's just announced lineup for Liquid Music's third season.

The National's Bryce Dessner, Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, Wilco's Glenn Kotche, Wye Oak, Glasser, Julia Holter, and many other imaginative artists will be taking part in this year's genre-blending lineup, performing avant-garde pieces and arrangements that give classical music a bold, contemporary pulse.

The music of Bryce Dessner will be celebrated and performed at the Walker's McGuire Theater over two nights, Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4. So Percussion, Richard Reed Parry, Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, the National's horn player Ben Lanz, Buke & Gase, musicians of the SPCO, and more guests to be announced will all join Dessner and bring his work Music for Wood and Strings, and other pieces, to vibrant life.

Other highlights of Liquid Music's season include a collaborative piece featuring Noveller, Glasser, and the chamber ensemble Victoire. Wye Oak and Bright Wave will be joining to explore composer William Brittelle's Spiritual America, along with reworking some arrangements from Wye Oak's new album, Shriek.

Wilco's Glenn Kotche will join Third Coast to bring life to his new piece, Wild Sound, which features found recordings Kotche has collected along with the construction and destruction of custom-designed instruments throughout the performance. Helado Negro will also be performing Invisible Universe Story with a star-studded band featuring Wilco's Mikael Jorgensen, Jan St. Werner from Mouse on Mars, frequent David Byrne collaborator Jason Trammell, and the Minneapolis Music Company.
