The reboot of Taste of Minnesota is in soggy shape after the heavy rains of the past week. Organizers say the food and music event cannot be held at Harriet Island in St. Paul because the land won't be dry enough in time to host tens of thousands of people over the weekend of July 3-6.

Update: A new location has been found!

According to the Pioneer Press, Taste of Minnesota is making calls to try to find a new spot that wasn't hit with flooding. Featuring Soul Asylum, Cowboy Mouth, and country and classic-rock performers, the weekend was meant to be a return to the island after a hiatus since 2010.

Even prior to this weather blow the weekend had already raised some questions as to its current relevance alongside other block parties and outdoor music events hitting the Twin Cities nearly every weekend.

Update: The 2014 Taste of Minnesota will be held 40 miles west of Harriet Island in Waconia. The Carver County Fairgrounds will host this year's festivities.

From Taste of Minnesota: "Thank you for your patience as we worked to find a new location for  this year's festival. We also appreciate the many venues that came forward as possible locations after flood waters reached our Harriet Island home." Directions and info here.

How typical... Bitch and complain!  Too long a drive?  Simple...  Don't go.  Hopefully the lack of complainers will cut down on the crowds a bit.  Have a GREAT 4th everyone!!

If Minnesotans can't complain about something what would you do?

40 miles away from the cities??? Total fail!

It's also not exactly easy to find a space big enough for an event in short notice. A location w everything in place.

People! It's not that far! It's an easy drive! Seems to me that the Taste was canceled in St Paul because of low attendance over the past few years...Parking problems? Really? I've NEVER had a problem parking in Mpls or St Paul (if only that was the case). Buses do come out to the west metro and I bet they will make arrangements for additional transit for those who are afraid to leave their comfort zone...Have you not heard of the Renaissance, valley fair, Winstock to name just a few? All local venues that are quite successful at dealing with large crowds. Try being open-minded for a change.

A high amount of traffic to the taste is actually foot and transit traffic. something tells me that metro transit doesn't go to Waconia and people aren't going to walk there. The truth is, a large population resides in the core of the metro area (Mpls/St Paul) -- that's why it's the core and "Urban" Usually, venues attempt to capture the crowd, not the fringe. You can like it or not.

It has nothing to do with Waconia, it has to do with the distance. Patrick Myer. Having it in Saint Paul is a centralized location. It's 30 minutes or so from any spot in the Metro. From DT Saint Paul Waconia is just about an hour away. I promise you, there won't be more people... There will be fewer people. And if there are a lot of people, traffic will be awful. And how about parking? This whole thing wasn't thought out.

Do you think only the people of St Paul ever went to the Taste of MN? Most people come from the burbs, you know, the ones like Chaska, Wayzata, Eden Prairie, those ones that are noramlly a 30 mile trip to the Taste in MN, can now go for a ten mile trip. Yes, pleanty of people will still goto the Taste, probably even more. You want money for gas ...Hmmmm Maybe you can pay the gas for the people that normally come all the way to St Paul each year..I think thats fair.

I thought they wanted to try and keep it in the cities... So they decide to move it 40 miles out? Why not the Washington county fairgrounds? That's still pretty close to the original location.

You want to pay for my gas to get out there? Nevermind the Taste of Maplewood is closer...and probably has better food anyways. And wait so is the Eagan Funfest and like a thousand other festivals that are going on within a 15 mile radius over the 4th weekend. Want fried expensive food? It's all right here.

Great call. It's not like there were a lot of choices. Waconia and Carver County represent themselves well.

Waconia is out of my gas budget bc I was going to bus it to the island. Why not the State Fair grounds or the Capital grounds? One less attendee here.

I think the real story here is that whoever at taste was responsible for negotiating their insurance coverage dropped the ball. No downtown event should have meant no event, which should have meant collecting the insurance and trying again next year. Nothing against Waconia, they just won't get the numbers there, at least not as they would at Harriet.

Um who's idea was this? I don't care if Waconia is a nice town we have a hard enough time getting folks to cross the river let alone 40 fricken miles. Bummer I was looking forward to it. Majority wants it back at the capitol listen to the people that spend the money.

Good luck to them. My chances of attending this are now at 0%

Your hashtag doesn't even make sense. By the way, 60% of the population of MN lives in the TC... So, it IS called Taste of MN and should therefore be available to the majority of Minnesotans.

Who the fuck is going to want to drive to Waconia for this?

I agree. I wish them well. I hope the people in the western suburbs show up.
