The growth of taprooms in the state of Minnesota has led to far more than just a growth in beer options. They have become neighborhood gathering centers, and no two are alike. Each taproom reflects the ownership as well as the local culture. And while many taproom activities have a uniform popularity -- from board games to bags -- music adds one of the most distinctive accents to the craft beer experience.

Earlier, we examined some metro area hotspots. Here we provide a listing of taprooms across the rest of Minnesota where fresh local beers and live music can be paired. This is an overview, so make sure to check with the respective breweries for specific calendar events.

The Best Twin Cities Taprooms for Live Music

While taprooms are often inside a brewhouse that's a workspace by day, they transform into a lively neighborhood gathering spot when the sun sets and the sanitary gloves come off. Beer pairs great with the other arts, and breweries in the Twin Cities region have taken note by adding some live music to their taprooms on select evenings.

Many breweries host special events a few times a year featuring music; those tend to be one-off block party affairs. Here, Gimme Noise has collected a list of metro taprooms that feature live music on a regular basis. Most spaces adopt a more coffeehouse feel with their musical selections -- with the decibels lower than at traditional venues. Acoustic and bluegrass are among the more popular styles, though rock, jazz, and brass show up too. Here are your Twin Cities taproom music destinations.

Rogue Valley pairing with NorthGate Brewing for Aster Cafe performance

Most bands have a hard enough time getting their own allotment of specific beers secured for them at each gig. But Rogue Valley not only got to choose what type of beer is available for their show at the Aster Cafe tonight, they got to partner directly with northeast Minneapolis's NorthGate Brewing to help craft their Chocolate Cherry Porter. The dark, velvety porter will be flowing freely from the taps tonight, right along with the sweet sounds of the band.

The show is part of Stillwater-based Tuned Beer's ongoing series of pairing a local band with an area brewery to create limited-release brews that match well with the distinctive tastes of everyone involved.

Bastille Day Block Party, Red Stag Block Party lineups announced

Listening to last year's Walker Fields disc, Gettin' By, you're bound to wonder why they were asked to play this weekend's Border Battle Beer Fest in Somerset on a bill that includes heavy favorite Bloodnstuff. If each have common roots in the blues, Gettin' By is worlds away from the electric English blues and '70s metal that inspire that other guitar/drums duo.

But the just-released EP Double Down captures the current Walker Fields -- a heavy blues collaboration between singer-songwriter Brad Senne and drummer Chris Tierney. Gimme Noise spoke to them both in depth.
