In case you've been living in a cave, Twitter is a micro-blogging site that hooks media junkies like opiates hook an addict. Some sign up for updates on the trivial thoughts of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, others enjoy flame wars between local bloggers, others keep their eyes on media tweets for news. And now, despite coming of age in an era before the internet--even television--MNHS is tweeting about Minnesotans from the "Greatest Generation."

Yesterday's news: Strib touts Muxtape day after shut down

Categories: Blogs/Web

The Star Tribune carries a story recommending Muxtape today, a day after the site got shut down over copyright concerns.

The print edition makes no mention of the shutdown, which occured as the newspaper was going to press, saying "the site is still going strong six months after its launch." That sentence now been changed on the web version of the story:

There have been questions over the legality of Muxtape in the six months since it launched, and, in fact, the site shut down Monday night, saying, "Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA."

People plan their own birthday parties, weddings and holiday gatherings, so why not their own funeral?

That's what Minneapolis friends Sue Kruskopf and Nancy Bush thought when they started a website aimed at Baby Boomers gearing up to kick the bucket who want to plan their own way out.

Just like Pringles packaging mastermind Fredric Baur wanted his ashes put in the can that made him rich; Boomers want their funerals to be so unconventional they’ll wake the dead, says Kruskopf.

Voog 2.0

Categories: Blogs/Web

The stork paid a visit to the Voog household last night, as Anacam subscribers can attest. Minneapolis performance artist/professional naked person Ana Voog gave birth to a 6 lb. 6 oz. baby girl named Lili, a child whose arrival was fretted over and celebrated by those who peer daily into Voog's life via the 24-hour live camera she's been exhibiting her life through for the past decade. And while the preceding months have had rough patches of worry in which Voog and her boyfriend drafted plans for letting family members with more conventional lives raise the baby, in the end, it all came down to a father, a mother, and an in-home birthing pool with a webcam trained on it. Spoken Word Poetry 'Zine

Categories: Blogs/Web

METAPHOR is a new online magazine that covers the world of performance poetry. International in scope, the cyberjournal is the pet project of Pioneer Press reporter Matt Peiken. Peiken, who wants the 'zine to be "the Rolling Stone of performance poetry (that is, when Rolling Stone was relevant)," kicks off the first week with interviews of Andrea Gibson and Ed Mabrey, and a piece about Latino poets that includes the Doomtree collective's own Dessa.
