He's a blog darling with an interesting name and he's coming to Minneapolis to perform with a few of our own talented artists. Theophilus London was raised in Trinidad but moved to Brooklyn and then, of all places, the Poconos mountains of Pennsylvania.

Padding his soul-rap agenda on Saturday at the Loft at Barfly will be Morley (of Gayngs) with recent import Astronautilus, as well as Gigamesh, who did two lovely remixes of London's latest hit, "I Stand Alone."

You can check those out at the end of this post, but for now, let's win you some tickets. And, perhaps the best part: The winner gets to meet and greet with Theophilus (should they choose) at Studiiyo23 in Uptown before the show.  More >>

It's a short week this week, which means that Wednesday night is actually Friday night for most of us working stiffs. Thanksgiving Eve is notoriously one of the busiest club nights of the year, and this time around is no exception. With First Ave's Mainroom occupied by the annual Ike Reilly gig, dance night aficionado Jake Rudh will be moving his popular new wave, Britpop, and indie rock heavy Transmission party to the Varsity for SECONDS, a night of classic music videos and cool dance grooves.

Lucinda Williams at First Avenue tomorrow: Win a free pair of tickets

Categories: Ticket Giveaway
Lucinda-web.jpg
Returning to Minneapolis to play First Avenue will be a momentous occasion for Lucinda Williams -- the last time she was on the Mainroom's stage, she tied the knot with her Minnesotan husband Tom Overby between her regular set and her encore. She was in town just last winter for a solo show at the Dakota, but nothing quite beats catching Williams with her band in the intimate confines of First Avenue -- and we want to give one of our readers a chance to catch the show for free.

Game coming to Epic Nov. 6: Win tickets now

Game's new album is out now
Game is a Grammy-nominated rapper most known for being a member of G-Unit, and this fall he delivered one of the season's standouts with The Red Album. It's a rough-and-tumble onslaught featuring major guest stars like Lil Wayne, Tyler The Creator, Lloyd, E-40 and others, and the squeaky-clean production dips into territory that's pretty left-field for mainstream rap.  There's even a bit of R&B on there -- another bold move for a guy whose image is thuglife all day.

Game and his face tattoo are coming to Epic Sunday night  and we want to give away a few pairs of tickets. Here's how to win.

The cool electro-pop duo is coming through to play their biggest local show yet on Wednesday, October 26, when they will headline First Avenue -- and we want to send one of our readers and their friend to the show for free.

Pretty Lights at Myth: Win a free pair of tickets

It's been a while since the Myth Nightclub in Maplewood has been on our radar; the club closed in August 2009 when its owners started suing each other over a big financial mess, and reopened in March of this year with new management.

Things didn't exactly get off to a smooth start at the nightclub this spring, but if the booking of a large-scale act like Pretty Lights (who is playing Myth this Saturday) is any indication, the nightclub is getting back on its feet and reasserting its place in the Twin Cities concert market.

Anyone who crammed into the Entry last May for James Blake's very sold-out Minnesota debut will tell you that the young British sensation was visibly enamored with the historic building in which he was playing.

"When we got here earlier we walked through the bigger room, where we thought we were playing," Blake said. "I thought, why aren't we playing there? That's where Prince played!"

Blake is going to get a chance to play "the room where Prince played" later this month when he returns to Minneapolis to headline the Mainroom on September 28 -- and we want to send one of our readers and a friend to check out the event for free.

Hanson at First Avenue: Win a pair of free tickets and autographed CD

Hanson probably haven't been on many of our radars since their omnipresent 1997 megahit, "MMMBop," faded from collective memory. But the band has actually remained quite active since then, releasing a string of full-length albums and touring in support of their slightly more nuanced, soul-inspired pop sound.

The band will be coming through Minneapolis on October 2 to perform in First Avenue's Mainroom, and we want to send a reader and their friend to the show for free. As a bonus, the winner will also receive an autographed copy of Hanson's most recent album, Shout it Out.
