8 Twin Cities hip-hop producers you should hear now: Vol. 3

Here we go once again with another monthly mix of local hip-hop producers worth checking out. This is not a best-of list, rather a collection of artists loosely organized by a like-minded approach to crafting sounds. Each artist represented here has a unique handle on laid-back production. Though no one here is mired down by that one style, the tracks selected were all standouts from the producer's discography that happened to come together in a profoundly chilled-out mix. Enjoy!

Welcome to the second mix in a monthly series highlighting local producers and beatmakers. This is not a best-of list, rather a collection of artists loosely organized by a like-minded approach to crafting sounds. Last month featured artist breaking away from the traditional Minneapolis boom-bap production style.

This month is dedicated to artists who maintain a connection with and reverence for the sample-based golden age while still expanding on the directions first wave Minneapolis producers took it. It's new wave Minneapolis production with a post-boom-bap mentality. Enjoy!

Eight Twin Cities hip-hop producers you should hear now: Vol. 1

In 2011, I headed up a monthly mix that showcased the wide variety of local rap happening in the Twin Cities. Starting with this post, I'm doing the same thing but with a focus on local producers and beatmakers. Every month, I'll highlight eight people who are making quality music worthy of attention, with a short bio and links to more music included. They'll be loosely organized by style.

This first mix highlights a string of fresh talents that are redefining the face of the Twin Cities sound with work that sidesteps boom-bap tropes to delve into smoother, more chilled and spacey material. Enjoy our first volume, and be sure to leave comments and share this mix!
