The River's Edge Music Festival will not be back in 2013, Live Nation officials say. The $4.8 million, two-day event on St. Paul's Harriet Island debuted last June with headliners Dave Matthews Band and Tool, as well as the Flaming Lips, Scissor Sisters, Diplo, and several others spread over multiple stages.

According to reports, this is a hiatus as opposed to a full-on cancellation. The event brought live music back to the popular festival ground near St. Paul after Taste of Minnesota went bankrupt in 2010, and though attendance was far from peak, showed a hint of what could be.

If Saturday at Harriet Island was highlighted by metal, then Sunday was a day reserved for jam bands. For a festival that, at first glance, looked like it picked its lineup out of a hat, Live Nation did a good job selecting acts that would draw people to Harriet Island like ants flocking to an abandoned piece of fried cheese curd.

The inaugural running of the River's Edge Music Festival will bring Tool, Dave Matthews Band, Diplo, the Flaming Lips, and 24 other artists to Harriet Island on the weekend of June 23-24.

And now that the event's promoter Live Nation has let the kitty out of the bag about this year, the focus is already on a more-ambitious slate for 2013. Get ready for a lot more local Live Nation presence in the festival sphere because the concert giant has signed a five-year minimum contract with St. Paul.
