VP candidate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant
There were rumors flying around the blogosphere that Sarah Palin had faked her pregnancy of Trig Paxson Van Palin to cover up the fact that the baby was really her daughter Bristol's.
"Sarah, I'm calling you a liar" wrote blogger ArcXIX. "And not even a good one. Trig Paxson Van Palin is not your son. He is your grandson. The sooner you come forward with this revelation to the public, the better. "
I thought this was scurrilous rumor-mongering and the kind of politics that Obama's campaign was supposed to be beyond. But it turns out that while Bristol may not be the mother of Trig, she is indeed pregnant.
ST. PAUL (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
Palin was brought on board to pacify the Family Values conservatives. I don't think a woman with a pregnant, 17-year-old daughter who engaged in premarital sex is what the God Squad was hoping for.
Supposedly, McCain knew about this little September Surprise and decided "that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way."
If that's true, he also must have known the pregnancy would come out before the election--though not this early. You really have to question his judgment, as well as his morals in hiding this from his supporters until it was dragged out to rebut "mud-slinging and lies" by bloggers.
With the hurricane looking like it may not be as bad as everyone thought, the pregnancy news is sure to lead the nightly news broadcasts. Somehow, I doubt this is was what Republicans were hoping for from the first day of their convention. Their convention bounce has become a convention baby bump.
