I promise not to get too High Fidelity on you

Thanks again to everyone who helped with the list. The voting booths are closed. Now it's up to Hicksy's abacus to tell us what's what.

And while you wait, peruse the CD-R Go! I designed for my 12-year-old brother. I owe too many people mix CDs. With any luck (and a lapse in my usual laziness) I'll play catch-up and post more tracklistings here.

PTC nominees (Updated Aug 19)

I know there are some Picked to Click voters out there trying to determine who's new this year. So I dug around in my brain and came up with this list. And by "dug around in my brain" I mean I asked Keri and Alison from Off the Record.

This is stuff that's pretty new:

Divebomb Honey
Get Up Johns
C-Section
Superdanger
Gay Beast
Keepaways
Thank You
Salt for Amy
We Kidnap Frisone
Shut-Ins
Birthday Suits
Mute Era
Toronado
Square Shooters
Total Fucking Blood
The Deaf
In the Valley of the Shadow of the Handbarrow
Hand
Planes for Spaces
Digitata
Half Fiction
Styrofoam Duck
Randall Throckmorton
Duplomacy
The Field
Kill the Vultures
No Wait Wait
Story of the Sea
Aphrill

These could be considered new. It's all very subjective:

Stnnng
The Deaths
Spittin' Cobras
Diamonds
Chariots
Maps of Norway

I (hi, it's Lindsey again) would also like to add:

Brother and Sister
Dallas Orbiter
The Pines
Chris Koza
FoodTeam
Tin Horns
Seymour Saves the World
Tim Rally Gold

Updates (thanks to Zacko, Cyn Collins, Peter, Dave Andersen, Jeremy, Wendy, Noah, Scott, and Neil for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming!)

Can you think of a band that should be added to the list? Email me. Together we will compile the longest list of newly recognized musicians in all the land.

I choose 'sleep in'

Ghosty's Grow Up or Sleep In has been holed up in my Panasonic for the last week. I caught them in Austin and found them to be an ideal capper to a crazy SXSW day. Warm night, park bench, Ghosty-ahhh. To give you some indication of their sound, they nail the hooks more often than the Long Winters but still couldn't out-wistful the Shins. Plus, they're from Kansas so they seem like nice boys. If you're in the highly coveted position of being pestered by publicists about such up-and-comers, you'll surely be informed that Wayne Coyne makes a guest appearance on the album. But when Coyne (who I absolutely love and hug whenever possible) trades lines with the sweet voiced Andrew Connor on an alternate mix of "Clouds Solve It," the vocal meanderer is unmasked as merely a guy who can't sing. Check out their website and listen to "Big Surrender" and "In a Big World (Little Dreams Count)." Hey, I didn't name the songs, okay?

After that, read about Brother and Sister.
