Get on the bus to the Minnesota Music Awards

Categories: Imported
P.O.S.5:
P.O.S. (right) performs at the Minnesota Music Awards Wednesday, Sept. 22
Of course the MMAs are disorganized, but you can't argue with a good party. The last couple annual Minnies had great performances, Prince sightings, social mixing across genre lines, Vikings cheerleaders, etc., etc. I'm presenting the award for best pop band and pop recording this year, and plan to take the free bus ride (see below) Wednesday Sept. 22 from Gluek's in Minneapolis to the Red Carpet in St. Cloud (here are driving directions if you need them). The show goes from 7:30 p.m. to midnight in a venue you should check out in any case.

Performers include: P.O.S. and members of Doomtree, Dallas Johnson with JD Steele and Desdamona, the Honeydogs (here's their message board), live St. Cloud hip-hoppers Hydrophonics, Monroe Crossing, Nachito Herrera, John Starkey Project (featuring Sam Kuusisto), Alicia WileyJack Norton and the Mullet River Boys, Viento Norteno, and Bryan Barnett, with DJ sets by Celebrity Records DJs Bryan Gerrard and David Drone. With hosts: Mei Young (KQ Homegrown) and Jason Nagel (Cities 97 Minnesota Music)

Presenters include: David Campbell (of Accident Clearinghouse, KQ Homegrown, and the Electric Fetus), Melissa Maerz and Peter Scholtes (City Pages), Lars Larson (D.U. Nation), Tony Paul (KFAI), JD Steele (of the Steeles and Broaday fame), E.G. Bailey (of the Minnesota Spoken Word Association), Chris Strouth (Future Perfect), David de Young (of HowWastheShow.com), Rich Horton (of Rift Magazine), the cast of Drinking with Ian, Jen Boyles (dance music writer at large), St. Cloud Mayor John Ellenbecker, Maya Lopez (Sabor Tropical, El Nuevo Rodeo), personalities from KVSC alternative radio in St. Cloud, Jim Weber and Taco Martin (booker at the Cabooze), and many more. Plus, here's some important info from the organizers...

Free bus rides to St. Cloud for the 24th Annual MN Music Awards:

Depature time from Minneapolis (to St. Cloud): 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, departing from Gluek's Bar in Downtown Mpls, 16 N. 6th St., to the Red Carpet. Buses will be parked in front of Gluek's 15 min. prior to departure. Red Carpet doors open at 6:30 p.m. and show begins at 7:30 p.m., ends around midnight. Tickets are $8.00 advance/$10 at the door. For more info, visit www.minnesotamusicacademy.org

Departure time from St. Cloud (to Minneapolis): 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. the same night, departing from the Red Carpet and going back to Gluek's Bar.

Why go? St. Cloud is loads of fun, and a cheap place to do it--not to mention joining some great musicians, presenters and new faces to celebrate the best of Minnesota Music. You'll also be saving on gas and helping the environment. If you want to drive the 70 minutes to St. Cloud, here are the directions to the St. Cloud Radisson.

There is no drinking or smoking on the buses (operated by Voigt Bus Co.), but there will be free Red Bull Energy Drink. Feel free to enjoy Gluek's Happy Hour before boarding. *Space is limited--each bus holds about 45 people. There will be an MMA volunteer for each bus, so when you arrive at Gluek's, make sure to check in with them to get your name on the list. There are 90 available spots.
