The UFC announced four more fights for UFC 87: Seek and Destroy, the event slated to take place August 9 at the Target Center.

One addition to the lineup is Cheick Kongo, a heavyweight up-and-comer who was recently defeated by Heath Herring, who will face Minnesotan Brock Lesnar on the same card. There will also be a lightweight contest between Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar.

Probably the most exciting is the battle of Ultimate Fighter alums Ben Saunders and Jared Rollins. Let's home it finds its way onto the PPV broadcast.

Here's the release.

I enjoy MMA and appreciate the fact that you post about MMA and Minnesota, but it seems that it is posted only as it relates to the UFC. About a month ago at an event in Japan called Sengoku III. Three Minnesotans fought and two of the three won. Travis Wiuff knocked out Japanese legend Kazuyuki Fujita. Fujita is the one person to almost knock out Fedor Emelianenko. Former UFC fighter and Bodog welterweight champion (Bodog's fight organization is now defunct) Nick Thompson submitted BJJ blackbelt Michael Costa by kimura in the second round. Logan Clark lost a decision to Kazuo Misaki who is a very highly rated fighter.

To me, the most interesting of these fighters is Nick Thompson. He is 1 and 1 in the UFC with his loss coming at the hands of Karo Parisyan. He is the Bodog welterweight champion in the now defunct BodogFight organization. He is on a 12 fight win streak, including a win over Eddie Alvarez (Alvarez's only loss) who is making his way through the Japanese Dream promotion's lightweight grand prix. (Dream is basically the replacement for the Pride Fighting Championship and is putting on excellent shows.) As I said in the above paragraph he just won in Sengoku III which is put on by World Victory Road, another replacement for Pride. He has a multi-fight contract with them so will be fighting there again soon. He is scheduled to fight July 26th on EliteXC's second televised card on CBS against Jake Shields for EliteXC's inaugural welterweight championship. Three days later he will be back in Minnesota to take the Bar exam since he just graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. So, all of that while going to a top 25 Law School as well.

Your story a few years back on Sherk was very good. We have some other MN fighters who could use some recognition too and any of the above fighters would be a great start. Sean Sherk, Brock Larson, Kaitlin Young, Brett Rogers, Roger Huerta, Nick Thompson, Logan Clark, Travis Wiuff and others I am surely forgetting. MMA is getting more popular why wait on the Star Tribune or Pioneer Press to take notice, you guys did the Sherk article before those guys ever did, keep it coming. If you guys want me to do it I will.

Anyway, I do appreciate your taking the time to post some MMA news occasionally, would just like to see more.
